Underage Drinking >:(

Each year, approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking.

On that faithful day, if Agil-san did not ignore Kirito’s request and gave him alcohol to drink, it may have been GAME OVER for Kirito-kun…

You think I’m exaggerating? Well, let me just tell you that the ramifications of underage drinking is no joke at all. Firstly, many teenagers are not fully aware of the devastating effects of alcohol consumption, and hence, they drink excessively. This would lead to an addiction in drinking alcohol and binge drinking in the future, which will result in extremely adverse health effects. Underage drinking may also cause impaired judgement – the inability to decide the correct moral action to do. In the worst case scenario, there would be underage sexual intercourse and ‘ta-da’, you now have the responsibility of raising a baby~ Studies have also shown that underage drinking may upset the critical hormonal balance necessary for the development of organs, and will affect the maturation of the reproductive system.

Basically, as a teenager, you’re not ready to handle the health impacts of alcohol consumption yet, so take a chill pill and be patient for adulthood. ((There’s a reason why there’s a law against underage drinking.)) By then, you will be more mature enough to gauge when you are at your limit and when is the time to put the cup down.

What if my friends force me to drink? I would love to tell you that if they force you, then they aren’t friends at all, but anyways, I don’t think that one should push the blame to others. You are the one to decide whether you want to succumb to Mr. Peer Pressure. If your friends are more important than your health, by all means, go ahead and waste your life. If not, just tell them straight to the face that you do not want to drink and politely ask them to stop persuading you. You don’t need ten buckets of courage to say that out. All you need is the will to stick to your own ideals and decide yourself what is the right course of action.

Yes I know that as adults, you can feel free to drink alcohol. However, don’t you think it is very unwise to drink when children or teenagers are around? In society, children look up to adults both literally in height, and as a form of expression. Children have yet to understand society fully and thus, turn to adults for that knowledge. If they see that drinking is a common form of lifestyle among adults, won’t they begin to imitate that too? Without proper guidance, they may deem alcohol consumption as something good and start drinking at a young age, which would be absolutely disastrous. The poor kid might just need a liver transplant at 14 years old! CAN YOU BEAR TO DO SOMETHING SO HORRENDOUS TO AN INNOCENT CHILD?

Vitamins & Nutrients

I believe all of us have our own likes and dislikes in terms of food choices. Everyone has different tastebuds, which results in everybody enjoying various types of food. Some may prefer spicy adventures, while others may have a sweet tooth.

Nevertheless, we should always consume a wide array of substances, because different food possess different vitamins and nutrients. For example, if we do not eat vegetables at all, we would not be able to gain the health benefits vegetables provide us with.

Benefits of Eating Vegetables

  • Low in fat and calories
  • Minimal cholesterol
  • Provides potassium, which helps maintain healthy blood pressure
  • Provides dietary fiber, which propels bowel function and lowers risk of heart disease
  • Provides folic acid, which improves formation of red blood cells
  • Provides Vitamin A, which keeps skin smooth and boosts immunity against infections
  • Provides Vitamin C, which aids wound healing and increases iron absorption

We need to maintain a balanced diet in order to remain healthy. Yes, you may not like the food. But you don’t have to eat an entire bowl full of it! Just chug few spoonful of it into your mouth and dilute the disgusting taste with your favourite fruit juice.

It’s natural to be picky, but we should always try a particular food out first. If it’s not to your liking, then eat it in smaller amounts in the future. If you avoid it entirely, your health will avoid you entirely as well. By then, you’ll be stuck in bed, suffering and regretting ;_;

{AHS Lesson 5} How To Save A Life

Good morning class, I will get straight to the point. Yesterday, one of the participants of the Anime Screencap Marathon experienced a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and was hospitalised. Thankfully, he is now out of the woods and would be able to be discharged by next week.

Thus, in today’s lesson, I will be going through some heart-related problems and emergency treatments. You never know when these skills will save a life, so pay full attention. I will not tolerate any jokes this lesson.

  1. Cardiac Arrest
It is a sudden stop in effective blood circulation due to failure of the heart to contract. This prevents the delivery of oxygen and glucose to the rest of the body, which leads to the loss of consciousness and may result in death within minutes. If someone is having a cardiac arrest, call the ambulance and use the AED immediately.
  2. Heart Attack
Often confused with cardiac arrest, a heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked. If someone is experiencing a heart attack, call the ambulance immediately.
  3. Arrhythmia
It refers to a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. Some cases are harmless, while some are fatal.

Unconsciousness (DR. ABC)

  1. Check for DANGER (e.g. middle of road)
    • If danger is present, shift victim to a safe area
  2. Check for RESPONSE
    • “Sir/Madam, can you hear me?”
    • If no response, call the ambulance immediately, or order a bystander to do it.
  3. Check the AIRWAY
    • Place one hand on victim’s forehead
    • Tilt victim’s head backwards
    • Pick out any obstructions in mouth using pinky/toothpick/etc
  4. Check the BREATHING
    • Observe motion of victim’s chest (rising/sinking)
    • Feel victim’s breath on cheek
    • Listen for sounds of breathing
  5. Check for CIRCULATION
    • Feel victim’s pulse at wrist

cpr 1

If no breathing/circulation, commence CPR on victim.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Ratio: 30 chest compressions to 2 rescue breaths

  1. Slide fingertips along lowermost rib until it reaches the sternum.
  2. Place heel of one hand on the sternum and place the other hand on top.
  3. Interlock fingers.
  4. Lean over victim to increase pressure from your body weight.
  5. Lock your elbows straight.
  6. Press down vertically 30 times.
  7. Pinch victim’s nose.
  8. Open victim’s mouth.
  9. Inhale air from surroundings.
  10. Place mouth on victim’s mouth.
  11. Exhale air inside mouth.
  12. Repeat steps 9-11.

cpr 2

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

If an AED is not readily available, perform CPR until AED arrives.

Always listen clearly to the instructions of the AED.

  1. Move victim to a dry area first.
  2. Turn on AED.
  3. Expose victim’s chest.
  4. Remove any metal objects around chest to prevent burns.
  5. If chest is wet, dry it.
  6. If there is a lot of chest hair, use the razor in the AED kit to trim it quickly.
  7. Attach sticky pads to chest.
    • One pad on the right of chest above nipple
    • One pad on the left ribcage below nipple
  8. Once ready, press ‘Analyze’ button.
  9. Tell everyone to STAND CLEAR, including yourself.
  10. If AED advises for shock, press ‘Shock’ button.
  11. Tell everyone to STAND CLEAR, including yourself.
  12. Listen to AED’s further instructions.
  13. Start or resume CPR until the ambulance arrives.
  14. Report all information and procedures to the paramedics.

In the event that a passer-by experiences a cardiac arrest, do not rush and let people who are certified first-aiders treat the victim. If you happen to be one, do not be afraid of stepping up. If everyone has the mindset that someone else is more capable than me at doing it, the person is going to DIE. You might not know the person, but his/her life is in your hands.

Every year thousands of people die of sudden cardiac arrest. Many of these deaths could be prevented with immediate and appropriate care. You never know when something will happen, so learn and understand these life-saving skills before you need them one day.

These are all what I have remembered from First Aid Courses. I am not a professional, so it is best to look up websites to learn about proper techniques and step-by-step methodology.

That’s it, class. Sorry for such a serious post but this is very important after all. Anyways, you all are dismissed. Thank you.
